1. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Admissions Numbers and Statistics

UA Little Rock Bowen Law Class of 2028:

  • LSAT: 75th: 158 | Median: 153 | 25th: 150
  • GPA: 75th: 3.72 | Median: 3.40 | 25th: 3.00

UA Little Rock Bowen Law Class of 2027:

  • LSAT: 75th: 155 | Median: 151 | 25th: 148
  • GPA: 75th: 3.71 | Median: 3.49 | 25th: 3.19

These are the full-time entering classes of 2025 and 2024, respectively. The class grew from 112 to 117. LSAT rose at the upper quartile, median, and lower quartile by three, two, and two points; GPA moved from 3.71/3.49/3.19 to 3.72/3.40/3.00. The 2025 part-time medians were 155 and 3.46, a separate evening-program comparison.

LEAP is a separate, selective route after an eligible denial, not a guaranteed fallback.

Aim to be at or above at least one median to be competitive. Above both puts you in a stronger position. Below both medians, this is a prayer, not a reach.

For context on how medians affect your strategy, see How to Build a Smart Law School List.

2. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Application Essays

Personal Statement (required)

Use two pages, typed and double-spaced. Explain why you want to attend law school and what your experiences reveal about your readiness. Applicants from outside Arkansas should make their interest in Bowen clear.

For more on explaining your interest in Bowen within this personal statement as an applicant from outside Arkansas, see my Why X Essay Guide.

For more on how to write a personal statement, see my Personal Statement Examples and Personal Statement Guide.

Bowen welcomes relevant background, life experiences, and volunteer work in the personal statement.

For more on discussing your background and perspective within this personal statement, see my Diversity Statement Examples and Diversity Statement Guide.

LEAP has its own invited application process; a regular applicant should not treat a LEAP essay as a substitute for the required JD statement.

For more on making your whole application work together, see my Cohesive Narrative Guide.

Addenda and Character & Fitness Resources

I'll be publishing a guide to addenda and character and fitness.

3. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Resume Requirements

Submit a one-page resume. Prioritize education, employment, leadership, and service, with dates and responsibilities. An evening-program applicant’s substantial nonlegal work is relevant evidence, not something to hide.

For more on preparing your resume, see my Resume Examples and Resume Guide.

4. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Letters of Recommendation

Recommendations are optional, and Bowen accepts up to two professional letters through CAS. Use them when a professor or supervisor can add specific evidence about your work.

For more on recommendations, see my LOR Guide (Applicants) and LOR Guide (Writers).

5. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Interview Process

For ordinary admission, make the written application carry your explanation of why law and why Bowen. LEAP applicants may be interviewed when the committee considers it necessary. Prepare to discuss teamwork, sustained effort, and how you would manage the program’s demanding schedule, using examples rather than promises.

6. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Deadlines and Decision Options

Application Dates and Fees

  • Fall 2027 applications open: October 1, 2026.
  • Final deadline: June 1, 2027. Review is rolling.
  • Seat-deposit and scholarship-acceptance deadline: April 15, 2027; follow an individual offer’s instructions when admitted later.
  • Final transcripts and immunization records: Due July 1.
  • Application fee: $0. The nonrefundable $250 seat deposit is credited to tuition.

Testing and Program Format

The current JD checklist requires the LSAT, with scores valid for five years. The aid page also refers to JD-Next in its merit-scholarship criteria. Select full-time or part-time study. The 90-credit JD normally takes three years full-time or four years in the in-person evening program. Evening classes generally run Monday through Thursday, approximately 5:45–9:25 p.m.

  • LEAP: Eligible applicants denied before its deadline, typically in mid-April, receive invitations to apply. The six-week summer program is full-time and prohibits employment. Successful participants may be recommended for the part-time JD, with final admission decided separately. Prior law-school attendance or prior LEAP participation makes an applicant ineligible; admitted LEAP participants also cannot work during their first law-school semester.

7. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Scholarships and Financial Aid

Merit Scholarships

Bowen considers applicants for merit and Core Value scholarships without a separate application. Merit awards cover 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of tuition.

Named Scholarships

The First-Generation College Student Scholarship has Arkansas residency and undergraduate-institution criteria; the Public Service Merit Scholarship recognizes qualifying service with Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Teach for America, or City Year.

Scholarship Renewal

Merit and Core Value awards generally require the top 60% of the class; a 100% award requires the top 40%. The 2025 ABA report records 30 reductions or eliminations among 86 conditional-award recipients in the preceding entering cohort. Merit and Core Value awards cannot be combined, although either can accompany nonresident tuition assistance.

2026–27 Costs

For 2026–27, resident full-time tuition totals $13,770, plus estimated fees $3,794, or $17,564 before books and living expenses. Resident part-time tuition and fees total $12,175. The nonresident rate is $1,006 per credit, but incoming nonresidents receive first-year assistance bringing tuition to the resident rate. Subsequent resident classification requires a separate application and eligibility. These figures exclude living costs.

For more on scholarship strategy, see How to Negotiate Law School Scholarships.

8. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Joint Degree Programs

All six concurrent routes require separate admission to both programs, advising, and a signed declaration of intent. There is no single completion schedule covering every route and enrollment format. Credits earned before entering Bowen cannot count toward the JD.

  • JD/Master of Public Service: The Clinton School of Public Service partnership offers up to 17 shared credits.
  • JD/MBA: The UA Little Rock School of Business partnership offers up to 18 shared credits.
  • JD/MSW: The School of Social Work partnership offers up to 24 shared credits.
  • JD/MPA: The School of Public Affairs partnership offers up to 27 shared credits.
  • JD/MPH: The UAMS Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health partnership offers up to 24 shared credits for work involving health policy, regulation, and population-level problems.
  • JD/PharmD: The UAMS College of Pharmacy partnership offers up to 20 shared credits. This is a professional pharmacy doctorate, not another master’s degree.

9. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Employment Outcomes (Class of 2025)

UA Little Rock Bowen Class of 2025 employment outcomes (reported to the ABA, measured 10 months after graduation):

  • Full-time, long-term bar-passage-required employment (ABA): 75.0%
  • BigLaw (firms with 101+ attorneys): 1.5%
  • Federal clerkships: 3.0%
  • Public service (including government): 28.8%

Arkansas is overwhelmingly the principal employment market, and government and public-interest work form a meaningful part of the class’s outcomes. Large-firm placement is uncommon. Bowen makes the most sense with an Arkansas-oriented plan, intentional local experience, and debt that fits likely work rather than a hoped-for exception. The capital-city setting provides access to institutions.

10. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Areas of Study and Specializations

Public service and administrative practice: The Public Service Externship Program and concurrent MPA or Clinton School MPS create different routes into institutional work. Choose whether you need direct legal practice, organizational management, or policy implementation rather than treating public service as a single specialty.

Family law and access to justice: Family Law, the Family Law Clinic, and the Delta Divorce Clinic connect doctrine to clients facing custody, divorce, guardianship, and representation barriers. Rural and urban settings present different practical demands; the client’s problem should guide your interests.

Dispute resolution: Negotiation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and the Mediation Clinic provide a sequence for developing communication and conflict-management skills. The special-education and early-intervention projects give that interest a concrete institutional setting.

Civil rights and criminal-justice research: Constitutional Law and Employment Discrimination provide doctrinal foundations. The Center for Racial Justice and Criminal Justice Reform’s Court Observation Arkansas project adds courtroom observation, judicial interviews, data analysis, and writing. It is a research opportunity, not a criminal-defense clinic.

Business, tax, and health regulation: Contracts and bankruptcy expertise, the Tax Clinic, and concurrent business or UAMS degrees support distinct practice plans. The Arkansas Children’s legal-affairs externship is especially concrete for applicants interested in contracts, compliance, and the operation of healthcare institutions.

11. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Clinics and Experiential Learning

Clinics

  • Delta Divorce Clinic: Students provide supervised direct representation to low-income clients seeking divorce in the Arkansas Delta. The work connects family-law knowledge with the practical difficulty of obtaining counsel outside the state’s larger legal markets.
  • Family Law Clinic: Student lawyers interview and counsel clients, investigate facts, draft pleadings and motions, prepare witnesses, negotiate, and develop trial strategy. Cases include divorce, custody, domestic violence, and guardianship, principally in central Arkansas.
  • Mediation Clinic: Students develop listening, communication, and dispute-resolution skills through community mediation work. The Arkansas Special Education and Early Intervention Mediation Projects help families, educators, and providers work toward agreements about children’s needs.
  • Low Income Taxpayer Clinic: Students work on tax controversies, including IRS notices, collections, credits, innocent-spouse relief, appeals, and Tax Court representation. This is advocacy in tax disputes, not a routine current-return preparation service.
  • Veterans Legal Services Clinic: Under a VA-accredited attorney, students assist with disability-compensation appeals and discharge-upgrade requests, using client-centered, trauma-informed advocacy. Closed intake for new clients does not mean that the student clinic has ceased operating.
  • Business Innovations Legal Clinic: The clinic’s work includes transactional counsel, community workshops, and legal toolkits for small businesses and nonprofits. It currently lists a pause on new assistance requests; do not build a course plan around a guaranteed new-client matter.

Pro Bono and Experiential Learning

Externships and practicum: Named placements include the Arkansas Supreme Court, its Office of Professional Conduct, ACLU of Arkansas, Legal Aid of Arkansas, and Arkansas Children’s Legal Affairs Office. Depending on placement, students prepare memoranda, assist with intake, review contracts, or research legislation. Bowen also provides a Part-Time Student Practicum. Selection, prerequisites, and a workable field schedule remain essential.

12. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Notable Faculty and Journals

Faculty

  • Theresa M. Beiner, Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law, studies civil procedure, discrimination, and the legal profession. She served as Bowen’s dean from 2018–2023 and teaches Employment Discrimination and Gender and the Law.
  • Kelly Browe Olson, Professor of Law and Mediation Clinic Director, specializes in family disputes, negotiation, and special-education mediation. She coedited Family Dispute Resolution: Process and Practice and works with Arkansas mediation institutions.
  • Kelly Terry, Ben J. Altheimer Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Experiential Learning and Clinical Programs, directs public-service externships. Her coauthored Externship Pedagogy and Practice reflects her focus on learning through supervised legal work.
  • Joshua M. Silverstein, Professor of Law, works in contracts, bankruptcy, constitutional theory, and legal education. He coauthors Problems in Contract Law: Cases and Materials and previously handled commercial litigation in Chicago.

Journals

  • University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law Review: Scholarship across a broad range of legal topics.
  • Arkansas Journal of Social Change and Public Service: Focuses on the relationship among law, policy, and public service.

13. UA Little Rock Bowen Law Culture and Student Life

Bowen’s Little Rock location and evening program make working professionals and career changers part of the school’s everyday mix. Plan around the law campus itself: it does not offer its own residential or dining-hall setup, and evening students need a realistic commute and study schedule.

Student Success Teams, Bowen Fellows, mock trial, moot court, and student organizations provide different ways to build relationships. The Bowen Business and Tax Law Society is one concrete option for business-minded students. Choose sustained participation over an ambitious list of memberships that leaves no time for classes or fieldwork.
